Blepharoplasty Surgery

What is Blepharoplasty?

This consists of removing or repositioning excess tissue such as skin and fat from the eyelid, reinforcing the surrounding muscles and tendons. It can be done both on the upper and the lower lid of the eye. Despite the fact that it can be used for functional reasons, it is mostly a cosmetic procedure.

Because of its accuracy and of the fact that it cauterizes the wound, making the incision with minimal bleeding, radiosurgery is the best choice for this cosmetic surgery that can be done here at Renew Skin & Health Clinic by our doctor specialists. It can also be performed with a C02 laser device but the scarring is more visible. With radiosurgery the learning curve is quicker and easier than with a laser used for dissecting.

Radiosurgery is based on the principle that the radio waves pass through the tissue from an active electrode to a passive one. Because the tissue has its own resistance, it causes the cells to volatilize at the tip of the electrode. This way, a smooth incision is performed and the other cells are not damaged. As in most cases of a radiosurgery procedure, the minimum time required for healing is 7-10 days, despite the fact that the results will be final after a few weeks.

Good candidates for blepharoplasty

Good candidates for this cosmetic procedure performed on the eyelids are people with an excess of skin obscuring the fold of the lids, loose skin, a puffy look which usually gives a person a tired look, bags and dark circles under the eyes or lower eyelid droopiness. When undergoing a blepharoplasty procedure one can experience some swelling, tenderness, dryness or irritation, but if you follow the specialist’s instructions before and after you can easily prevent them and get the best final results.
